Ready, Set, Engage!

AAFPRS Engagement Opportunities

Without a doubt, the heart of the AAFPRS is our members. Our members provide a diversity of ideas and viewpoints which drives strategy, innovation and a sense of community. Together we can accomplish more!

We encourage all AAFPRS members to: Get engaged. Stay Informed. Volunteer. Lead!

Serve on a Committee

Volunteering to serve on a committee can help to build lifelong friendships, fosters personal and professional development, contributes to the success of the Academy and AAFPRS Foundation and advances the facial plastic and reconstructive surgical specialty.  Click the links below to learn more about the Academy & Foundation committees.

Foundation Committees

To be considered for appointment, please read the committee charges and forward your top three choices (in rank order) to info@aafprs.org.

Join AAFPRS Online Communities

Communities provide a forum for networking, collaboration on topics of interest, finding vendors for products and services specific to the specialty and solutions to your everyday challenges. Explore the available communities, choose how you want to receive your communications, and participate as often as you can.

Vote!

AAFPRS holds an annual election for elected officers, committees and bylaw amendments (as needed). Ensure you are a member in good standing, learn about the candidates and issues and VOTE!

Connect with Your Grassroots Network

Each member falls within a regional district, lead by a Regional Representative. Check our list of Regional Representatives, find who your representative is and connect with him/her regarding policies and legislative issues of interest or concern to you!

Volunteer to be a FACE TO FACE Physician

The FACE TO FACE (FTF) humanitarian programs allow AAFPRS members to use their surgical skills and expertise to help those who are in need domestically and abroad. All programs are conducted under the auspices of the Educational and Research Foundation for the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS Foundation). If you are an AAFPRS Member who would like to volunteer in the FACE TO FACE Program please contact Karen Sloat.

Conduct Research

Learn how to conduct quality research to provide scientifically based evidence that supports treatment decisions and recommendations in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. Collaborate with your peers and discover ways to improve patient care.

Please note: The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted our ability to fund grants, scholarships and awards for the 2020-2021 grant cycles. However, we continue to seek funding opportunities and are working hard to restore research award funding in 2022 and beyond.

Participate in the Mentorship Program

The purpose of the AAFPRS Mentorship program is to create a developmental partnership between the mentor and the mentee in sharing knowledge, skills, information and perspective to foster surgical skills, career opportunities and personal growth. The power of mentoring is that it creates a one-of-a-kind opportunity for collaboration, goal achievement and problem solving. Mentor = 10+ years of experience | Mentee - < 10 years of experience. For more information, please email info@aafprs.org.

Start a Fellowship Program

As a benefit of membership, AAFPRS Fellow members can apply for an AAFPRS Foundation Fellowship Program, accredited by the Accreditation Council for Post-Residency Specialty Education (ACPSE). As an AAFPRS Foundation Fellowship Director, you will be a recognized authority in the practice and teaching of facial plastic surgery.

AAFPRS Foundation programs have been accredited by the ACPSE since its establishment in 2016. The ACPSE was established as an accrediting body to evaluate and accredit the training and competency of facial plastic surgery fellowship programs. When you join this elite group of facial plastic educators, you are helping to increase the number of post graduate fellowship training programs available and providing young physicians an opportunity to learn the specialty from those who represent the finest postgraduate program in the world.

For application information, contact Fatima Porter-EL Mitchell.

Submit a Talk or Abstract

Share your knowledge, advance our specialty and improve patient care–submit an abstract or presentation for inclusion in an AAFPRS meeting.  We’re looking for ground-breaking scientific research and informative topics (panel discussions and individual podium talks) that showcase surgical innovations, non-surgical techniques, minimally-invasive technologies, and business/marketing strategies for physicians, advanced providers and clinical office staff.  Whether you're a veteran speaker or a first-time presenter, we encourage and welcome your contribution to this important event.
